1971 US Mint Uncirculated Coin Set *MINT Collection
1971 US Mint Uncirculated Coin Set *MINT Collection
This set comes in its original packaging, just as it was issued by the United States Mint in 1971.
The number of coins in the 1971 Mint Set increased from 10 to 11 coins in 1971 to accommodate for the addition of a Philadelphia Mint half dollar, a coin not produced in 1970. Overall, the set includes: Lincoln Cent (P, D, S mint marks), Jefferson Nickel (P, D mint marks), Roosevelt Dime (P, D mint marks), Washington Quarter (P, D mint marks) and the Kennedy Half Dollar (P, D mint marks).
1971 also marks the first year that the Kennedy Half dollar joined the Washington Quarter and Roosevelt Dime with a clad composition, a sandwich containing a pure copper core and layers of 75% copper and 25% nickel on the faces of the coin, giving it a familiar silver colored appearance. These coins, however, contain no silver, making this the first United States Mint Set not to contain any precious metal.
