In times of plague and epidemics, specialist doctors were hired to treat the sick, and many wore a distinctive mask that acted as a respirator filled with aromatic items as protection from disease.  The bird-like mask has a cone nose shaped like a beak to hold fragrant substances including dried flowers, herbs, and straw.  Its purpose was to keep bad smells away, which were believed to be the cause of the disease. 

No doubt this mask is quite cool and creepy, making it perfect for Halloween, and there's no need for messy makeup!  This 11-inch long, 8-inch high, and 7-inch wide mask is made of sturdy black vinyl with smoke lenses, and the holes under the beak offer plenty of ventilation.  The adjustable buckle strap fits over the head for a secure fit.
